Christian Punk Band Takes Up New Crusade Against Christian Establishment

EMERYVILLE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Playing hardcore music for Jesus Christ may sound outrageous, but a bunch of punks in Northern California are doing just that.

They call themselves the Knights of the New Crusade and they’re releasing their second full-length album on Alternative Tentacles, a record label founded by former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra.

Singer Mike Andrews says the band has gotten as much hate mail from those who oppose the hardline Christian militancy in their message as it has praise from hardcore Christian rock fans who dig it.

In Andrews words, “Some people don’t like to hear it, but our message is simple: if you accept the words of Jesus in the New Testament, and keep the Ten Commandments as Jesus said to, then you are saved.”

Andrews says that he’s not sure what some politicians and fundamentalists mean when they talk about a “war on Christianity,” but he suspects they’re NOT on the same page as his band.

According to Andrews: “We have politicians who are saying we need this or that to be a Christian nation, and yet their own actions do not bear out that they are Christians.”
