Wild Kingdom Wolf Episode Battles Popular Myths And Mythology

NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Werewolves aren’t real, but the disease that led people to tell tales of the mythical monster is.

That’s according to Peter Gros, the host of a new episode of Animal Planet’s Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, called Global Wolf, which premiers on Sunday (May 28).

Gros – who also serves as a special consultant on the episode – says the show deals partly with the mythological misconceptions that the Western world has about wolves.

He figures some of that misplaced fear is directly related to werewolves.

In his words, “There was a real disease called lycanthropy – where people want to drink human blood and crawl around on all fours – that you can blame the myth of the werewolf on.”

Gros says that, along with the ideas that wolves are wanton killers – which the show also disproves – has led to history’s strong anti-wolf bias.
