Punk Super Group Attempts To Be Pop Stars

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – This year’s music du jour just may be the “super group.”

Ted Nugent and Sabastian Bach are currently in a band for the VH1 reality show, Supergroup, and Tommy Lee will create a supergroup later this summer as part of the latest edition of Rockstar.

Now comes word of the first punk rock-oriented supergroup, Osaka Popstar, which features former members of the Misfits, Ramones, Black Flag and Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

The band is the brainchild of lead singer John Cafiero, who compares Osaka Popstar’s sound to “mixing Coke with Pop Rocks and pouring it in your ear.”

Although some supergroups are created more for financial concerns than musical ones, Cafiero insists that Osaka Popstar works because the band members all know and like each other.

Osaka Popstar releases its debut CD, Osaka Popstar And The American Legends Of Punk, today (May 23) and it includes covers of the Daniel Johnston song, “Wicked World,” and a punk version of “A Man Of Constant Sorrow,” from O Brother Where Art Thou.
