Blind Drag Racing Crew Chief’s Team Sees Victory

PHILADELPHIA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The world’s only totally blind drag racing crew chief kept his eyes on the prize, leading his team to victory at the 37th Annual ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals over the weekend.

Jay Blake, fresh from the win in Gainesville, Florida, says he and his Dream Team feel “awesome.” In his words, “It’s a great feeling, a great victory.”

The team secured their win with a 5.606 second run at 256.55 mph at the track.

Some may wonder how Blake, who lost his sight and sense of taste in an accident, can work on cars.

Blake says he has a team to help, but he also relies on his hearing to keep the car running in tip-top shape.

He disagrees with the belief that when you lose one sense, the others improve. As he puts it, “I just got better at using my hearing.”

Now he’s setting his sights on finding further sponsorship and preparing for the next race in Atlanta in May.
