Sparks Are Flying For Pioneering Band

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The pioneer techno band Sparks is best known for its mid-1980s hit, “Cool Places,” so it’s fitting the band is getting hot buzz for its upcoming new album, Hello Young Lovers.

The album hits stores March 21, and singer Russ Mael says the band plans to perform the recording in its entirety on its upcoming U.S. tour.

As he puts it, “We tried that with our last album, Little Beethoven, and we think the new album works best as a whole piece.”

Although Sparks gets praised for its quirky, hilarious lyrics such as the new song, “Perfume” – about a man who is glad his new girlfriend wears no fragrance, lest it remind him of a former flame – Mael says he and brother Ron tend to junk ideas that verge too close to hilarity.

In his words, “There’s a sadness in our music, and we hate things that are deliberately funny. Still, we try and create dramatic situations and treat them in an amusing manner.”

Mael has more reason to be amused. Sparks is working on a track with Franz Ferdinand and both groups are talking about doing an album together.
