Designer Creates Oscar Gowns From Hemp And Bamboo Silk

BEVERLY HILLS , Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A designer who specializes in sustainable fabrics hopes actresses will “go green” at the Oscars in his hemp and bamboo silk gowns.

On March 1, designer Jan Klingberg will reveal his Oscar Goes Green collection at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

He promises the dresses of bamboo and hemp silk blends will exude ‘40s Hollywood glamour, adding, “The last thing we wanted to be was granola.”

Though a material like hemp is traditionally very rough, Klingberg says it becomes really “luxurious and soft” in a silk blend.

For those wondering, he says, “It does not smell like pot at all.” He jokes, “You can smoke it, but you won’t get high.”

Klingberg says he used actresses like Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz for inspiration, and thinks the green shade of his bamboo silk gown with leaf cut-outs, freshwater pearls and rough cut garnets would really accentuate Witherspoon’s eyes.
