‘The Bachelor’ Is Keeping Other People Single

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Reality shows like The Bachelor purport to be promoting marriage, but it may be inspiring a whole generation to hold out on getting hitched as long as possible.

That’s what author Jillian Straus discovered while researching a new book, Unhooked Generation: The Truth About Why We’re Still Single (Hyperion).

Straus interviewed singles all across America and she knows many intelligent women who watch The Bachelor and admit it inspires all sorts of romantic fantasies that make them want to hold out for “Mr. Right” – or worse – “Mr. Perfect.”

The men aren’t immune either. One guy told Straus, “Hey, if the Bachelor can date three women at once, why can’t I?”

As a result, she says too many men and women stay in “upgrade mode” and second-guess potentially good relationships because they keep thinking there’s a better person just around the corner.

There is hope: Straus says asking yourself, “Am I willing to think of a relationship in terms of what I can give instead of what can I get?” can help remind you that the fantasies promoted by The Bachelor have little to do with the qualities that make for a long-term relationship.
