Tree Growing Through Car Inspires Guitarist Vernon Reid

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Inspiration comes in the strangest sources – especially for Vernon Reid, the guitarist for Living Color.

Reid says one of the most inspirational moments of his life came when he visited his grandfather’s home in the Caribbean and saw a tree growing through the roof of an abandoned car.

He admits, “The locals probably thought it was an eyesore but, for me, it was a profound statement of how machine and nature fuse together.”

Reid could relate since, as a guitarist, he often feels fused with technology in the same way. He figures the tree-car combo reminded him that no matter how gadgets advance, there’s always a ghost in the machine, some element of humanity.

Reid hopes to continue combining hardware and heart with his upcoming release Other True Self, a CD recorded with his other band, Vernon Reid and Masque.

The CD will be released April 18, followed by a U.S. tour.
