Gunnar Nelson Re-Introducing World To Ricky Nelson

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Gunnar Nelson – who, with brother Matthew, formed the early ’90s rock group, Nelson – is looking forward to 2006 because it will give him a chance to look back at his Dad, Ricky Nelson.

Dec. 31 marks the 20th anniversary of their father’s death in a plane crash, and Gunnar, Matthew, brother Sam, and sister, actress Tracy Nelson, are honoring pops by releasing a greatest hits CD and DVD, as well as a documentary airing this month on PBS.

Gunnar Nelson says rock legends like Bob Dylan constantly praise his father’s work and wants to reintroduce hits like “Travelin Man” to a new generation who won’t be tainted by Ricky’s teen idol image.

He says the best part about remastering the original the songs was hearing the conversations between his Dad and his grandfather, Ozzie Nelson.

In his words, “It goes from Ozzie doing most of the work and slowly Ricky takes over and you hardly hear Ozzie at all.”

The CD and DVD will hit stores Dec. 27, and Gunnar and Matthew hope to hit the road with their Dad’s former guitarist, James Burton.

After that, Gunnar wants to complete a long-planned tribute album tentatively titled Like Father, Like Son.
