Earth-Friendly Clothing Retailer Offers Tofu Wear

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Apparently tofu is no longer just for miso soup.

An environmentally-friendly online clothing retailer called is now selling tops made from tofu.

Owner Adrienne Catone-Huber explains that the soybean waste from tofu manufacturers can be woven with organic cotton to make “a kind of clingy fabric. It’s a little on the sexy side.”

For now, Catone-Huber sells a sleeveless tofu tee called the Miso Cute Top and a hooded sweatshirt named Shoyu Hoody, but plans on adding other items in the Spring.

While she agrees the tofu fabric would make adorable undies, she admits, “We don’t have any soy-based bottoms...yet.”

For those afraid of smelling like a soy bean while wearing the tops, Catone-Huber insists, “Once they spin it through the fabric, all of [the scent] is gone.”

In fact, she says you can wear several of the organic items on her site to a black tie event, and she swears you won’t have that “I’m just a hippie sitting on the lawn” look.
