Angela Ruggiero a two-time Olympian who is headed for the 2006 games in Torino, Italy, in February explains that there is no checking in womens hockey, calling it a skill-based sport as opposed to a sized-based sport.
But more importantly, she says, We have full face masks so we have all our teeth.
Ruggiero busts all myths of black eyes and brawling in her league, saying that international players are very sportsmanlike.
As she puts it, Thats kind of stupid to fight during the Olympics.
In her new book, Breaking The Ice (Drummond), Ruggiero reveals she was involved in ONE fight with a guy during a pick-up game after he grabbed her shirt.
She held her own, but is not necessarily proud of the fight, admitting, That was kind of bad.
