Playwright Jeffrey Bruners Katrina: State of Emergency is expected to touchdown at Chicagos Bailiwick Repertory theater on January 8.
The work is presented as a collection of true, firsthand accounts of people who were stuck in the Big Easy when Katrina hit.
Bruner says the tales include a blogger trapped in a building who kept his web log up-to-date by running his computer on a diesel generator; a man who was caught in the flood after dropping his son off at college; and some California paramedics in New Orleans for a convention.
While the pain of Katrina may be fresh in the minds of the victims, Bruner says, The vast majority of the rest of Americans have moved on.
Thats why he hopes that the play helps keep attention focused on what happened when it opens on January 8.
