San Antonio Santa Searching For Gifts For Seniors

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Santa Claus delivers presents to kids but a San Antonio, Texas man is hoping to do the same for oldsters.

Starting today (Nov. 1), Chris Lerch will be helping promote the second annual “Be A Santa To A Senior National Gift Giving Program,” which is dedicated to bringing gifts and holiday cheer to lonely seniors, especially those affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.

In the program, participating stores put up Christmas trees with ornaments that feature the wish lists of seniors and folks then buy the items requested.

Luckily, most seniors aren’t picky. Lerch says the majority want simple things such as bathrobes, hand towels and slippers.

Other gifts should be thoughtful. For instance, a Matlock DVD might seem like a fine gift for an old person but Lerch says most don’t have DVD players and few want to learn to operate one.

Of course, some gift requests are harder to fill than others. Last year, one old guy requested “an 18-year-old girl” but had to settle for a new bathrobe and slippers instead.
