Distributing Own Movie Gives Actor A Different Picture Of Film Industry

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sometimes, distributing your own movie helps you get a different picture of the film industry. At least that’s how actor Peter Riegert sees it.

Riegert – who played “Boon” in the 1978 comedy, Animal House – just spent seven months on the road promoting his directorial debut, King Of The Corner, mainly because he couldn’t get a distributor willing to put the film in theaters.

So Riegert visited cities all over America to promote the movie, which is a comedy about a middle-aged man who loses his job in the same week his Dad dies.

In the process, Riegert made some key discoveries about his own life and the movies. For one thing, there are large numbers of filmgoers all over the U.S. who are interested in foreign films, independent films and documentaries.

But the main lesson he learned is that “it’s less about marketing and more about how confident you are in a story.”

King Of The Corner, which also stars Isabella Rossellini, Eric Bogosian and Eli Wallach, will be released on DVD today (Oct. 25).
