Lamont Dozier Returns To Country After 45 Years

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Songwriter Lamont Dozier is known for writing soul classics for Motown artists like the Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas and the Four Tops but now he’s returning to country music.

Dozier says when he first started out in the early 1960s, he was a big fan of country music, especially Loretta Lynn, because, as he puts it, “the lyrics are like mini- movies.”

He even wrote a song for Lynn called “Come And Get These Memories” but wasn’t able to get it to her so he had Martha and the Vandellas sing it and they turned it into a top 10 hit.

Now, Dozier is returning the song to its roots, thanks to a 14-year-old female country singer named P.E. Chase. When he found out she was also a big Lynn fan, he remembered “Memories” and decided to record it in the country feel he originally intended.

It must have worked. The song is now rising up the country charts and Dozier is seeing if any of his other songs would sound good as country tunes.

Dozier is also working on a stage musical version of The First Wives Club with his old songwriting partners, Brian and Eddie Holland.
