‘O.C.’ Creator Reveals Secret To Success: Good-Looking Californians

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – TV critics praise the Fox drama The O.C. for its acting and storylines but creator Josh Schwartz says the real reason behind the show’s success is good-looking Californians.

Schwartz says that even though the show’s setting might seem alien to non-Californians, they can still relate because “the more specific you are in your storytelling, the more universal those stories become.”

Plus, he adds, “Everybody [in California] is just so damn good-looking.”

Schwartz, who hails from Providence, Rhode Island, doesn’t want to imply that people in his home state are “unsightly” but says the state of California has a “mythic quality” that “appeals to people all over the world.”

A DVD collection of The O.C., Season 2, arrives in stores Aug. 23.
