When It Comes To TV Crime-Busting, Like Mother, Like Daughter

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes to fighting TV crime, it’s a case of like mother, like daughter, for actress Rashida Jones.

Jones stars on the new TNT drama, Wanted, and she’s following in the footsteps of her mother, Peggy Lipton, who played a cop on the late 1960s series, The Mod Squad.

Although both Jones and Lipton played cops on shows produced by Aaron Spelling, the similarities end there. Jones says her mom’s character was “just a hippie...who didn’t even have a gun on her show.”

By comparison, Jones plays a former Naval Intelligence Officer who carries a gun in one hand, lipstick in the other “and needs them both.”

Despite those differences, Jones is proud of her Mom’s crime-busting past and figures the comparisons between their characters on The Mod Squad and Wanted are a “little microcosm of the evolution of women.”

Wanted debuts Sunday (Jul. 31).
