Cats Get Urinary Tract Infections Too

BREA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – No wonder cats act pissy: They get urinary tract infections too.

So many that the condition tops the feline category of Veterinary Pet Insurance’s annual claim results, which identify the top 10 reasons why dog and cat owners took their pets to the veterinarian in the past year.

The results show that dogs were treated most frequently for ear infections while cats were taken to the veterinarian for UTIs over any other condition.

Other incidents that cracked the list of conditions/illnesses that brought pets to the vet include:

  • Stomach upsets, which vets treated cats for the second most of all claims and third most for dogs.

  • Skin allergies was no. 2 on the canine list while it was no. 5 in the pussy category.

  • Finally, the seventh highest amount of claims submitted by dog owners were for sprains while cat owners submitted so many claims for their tabby’s respiratory infection that the condition is no. 3 on the feline list.
