Life Imitates Art For ‘Instant Star’ Alexz Johnson

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Alexz Johnson plays a pop star on TV – and she may soon become one in real life as well.

Johnson is the star of the Canadian TV series, Instant Star, which concerns a 15-year-old who wins a talent contest and must deal with overnight fame.

The show debuts in the U.S. on the N cable channel on Friday (Jul. 1) and Johnson says she thinks it’s “very realistic.”

So much so that the Pat Benatar soundalike is very cautious about signing with record labels for her real-life singing career.

Johnson says she’s had offers but only from companies that, as she puts it, “offered me the music THEY wanted me to do.” She’s refused because, she admits, “I’m pretty fiesty.”

An Instant Star soundtrack album featuring five Johnson originals is a hit in Canada and may hit U.S. stores by summer’s end.

Meanwhile, she is working on another album that is more in the style of her hero, Rickie Lee Jones.
