Burt Reynolds Likes It Rough – Sports Films, That Is

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Burt Reynolds admits his first reaction regarding remaking his 1974 classic The Longest Yard was, “Bad idea.”

However, he changed his mind on the first day of shooting when he realized the new version might be as rough and gritty as the original.

In his words, “I hate to admit it, but I got a little smile on my face when I saw somebody being carried off on a stretcher and I thought, ‘this might work.”’

The Longest Yard hits theaters Friday (May 27) and while Reynolds’ original is darker and grittier, he says Adam Sandler’s version does feature some real killers, such as pro wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Goldberg and former Oakland Raiders linebacker Bill Romanowski.

Reynolds says he kept having to remind Romanowski it was just a movie and the player would reply, “Not to me.”
