‘Blair Witch’ Creator’s Latest Project: A 21st Century Soap Opera

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One of the men behind The Blair Witch Project is now setting his sights on creating a 21st century version of the soap opera.

Dan Myrick – who directed the 1999 cult horror flick – is now working on a new web show called The Strand, that takes the cinema verite elements used in Blair Witch and adapts them to a “webisodic” format.

The Strand takes place in Venice Beach near Los Angeles and centers around the natives, such as waiters, homeless bums and a skate punk who tries to score pot.

Myrick sees The Strand as a modern day soap opera but instead of scripts, he’s hired people with good improv skills in hopes of capturing moments that are “unforeseen and unpredictable.”

Consequently, not every episode is plot driven. A waiter seen briefly in one show might be the focus of another and while some plots will be resolved, others will go on forever.

The Strand debuts on March 15 at and while the premiere episode is free, subsequent episodes will cost 99 cents each to view.
