The Sun Has Set On Old-Fashioned Summer Camps

RUNNING SPRINGS, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Gone are the days of lanyard-making and eating mystery meat at summer camp: Today’s kids are attending camps to train them to be spies and Hollywood stunt artists.

For six years, Pali Overnight Adventures has been offering week-long specialty camps like Secret Agent Camp, where kids bone up on James Bond-type topics like stealth techniques, survival hikes and how to drive All Terrain Vehicles.

Head counselor Barry Vigon says “Each kid picks an area of concentration, like a college major.” They can also major in Hollywood Stunt Camp, Battle Robot Mania or Culinary Institute.

This year, kids can attend broadcast journalism camp and put on a nightly news broadcast; as well as classes in digital photography; fashion design; and spa and “well-being” where kids learn yoga, nutrition and get manicures and pedicures.

Finally, Vigon says the only mystery meat-like foods kids eat are at their Fear Factor events when they put chocolate pudding in a baby’s diaper and convince kids to eat it.

A week’s stay at the camp will set parents back $1435.
