Seamen Suck At Building Boats
Folks will be hard at work building their own boats this weekend (Apr. 17-18) in Bodega Bay.

BODEGA BAY, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Just because you’re a skilled seaman doesn’t mean you can build a boat.The 37th Annual Bodega Bay Fisherman’s Festival sails into Bodega Bay, California, this weekend (Apr. 17-18), where attendees can test their carpentry skills in an event called the “Wooden Boat Challenge.”
Teams of four will be given simple building materials – hammers, wood, nails, screws, and rope – to build a boat in three hours without a single power tool.
They then have to race their amateur watercraft on the bay, though most end up sinking like the Titanic.
According to event coordinator Starr Swindt, carpenters have the upperhand while fishermen, who spend their lives at sea, seem to sink the fastest.
The local Coast Guard is equally pathetic, with their homemade vessels capsizing every single year.
Swindt says watching the seamen go under has become the highlight of the competition for onlookers roaring with laughter.
