LONDON (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – What’s in a name? Well, apparently everything if you’re betting big money on a horse race.

Britain’s Grand National races are underway and housewives have a better chance of choosing winning horses than hose who obsessively study the odds.

According to research by Racing For Change, more than 50 percent of women who’ve bet on a horse because they liked its “funny name” have walked away with cash in their pocket.

Nearly 20 percent won money after basing their bet on the color of a jockey’s jacket, while 5 percent picked a winning pony based on a jockey’s name and how handsome they were.

Some women choose successful horses completely at random.

In the end, housewives’ bets often yield better returns than those placed in the wake of studious research.

Case-in-point: Only one in 10 ladies say they put time and effort into actually looking up the horse trainer’s recent record.
