Indie Singers Have No Chance On `Idol'

DENVER (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – No matter how “different” the American Idol judges urge contestants to be, truly unique singers don’t stand a chance.That’s how indie songwriter Lilly Scott feels after her shocking exit from the show last Thursday (Mar. 11).
Scott is “frustrated” she couldn’t find a fanbase for her offbeat stylings, and thought she could finally break the boring Idol mold.
The crooner chalks up her dismissal to the show’s voting demographic.
She thinks it’s mostly tweens watching, and the kids simply don’t get her unique vibe, which really appeals to the “underground market.”
Moreover, her fellow indies probably “don’t even own a TV and if they do, they’re out riding their bikes or doing something more productive than watching American Idol.”
Scott thinks she was “too off-the-wall” for mainstream acceptance, but maybe it’s for the best because now she can keep her “indie cred” without the Idol label looming over her.
