PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) Underneath their big bug eyes, odd heads, and weird bodies, cartoon characters are a strange sack of bones.Artist Michael Paulus is giving viewers of Saturday morning cartoons an eyeful with a series of illustrations titled Character Study, where he draws what he believes the skeletons of cartoon characters like Betty Boop, Charlie Brown, Hello Kitty, and The Powerpuff Girls look like.
Paulus chose the popular characters because he himself wondered what theyd look like if they truly had eye sockets half the size of their head, or fingerless hands, or feet comprising 60 percent of their body mass.
In drawing out their insides Paulus gets to dissect them as if they were a science project.
By building their skeletons, he finds he can understand their origins, how they were created, and maybe even get to know them a little better since they were such a major part of his childhood.
