According to a survey by La-Z-Boy, 68 percent of doctors agree that reclining in a chair at home can decrease back pain.
Because reclining provides full body support from the back to the legs, the position relaxes surrounding muscles, taking tension away from sore areas.
Physicians feel that reclining can alleviate various types of back pain including muscle strain and pregnancy-related aches.
To truly ease pain, 80 percent of docs prefer patients sit in a reclined position with legs elevated up high and the back partially or fully reclined.
They also recommend relaxing in furniture that offers varying degrees of reclining, since all bodies are different.
The experts are enjoying a taste of their own medicine, too.
Six in 10 physicians surveyed personally own reclining furniture at home. Additionally, the American Chiropractic Association endorses La-Z-Boy reclining furniture.
