Thats the holy story according to Aimee Dingmans photographic series Not-Right Nativities, which features odd icons like Star Wars characters and Lego pirates in a nativity scene.
Dingman believes the nativity is fair game for jokes since there are many historical inaccuracies as to who or what was actually present at the birth of the Savior.
Though she worries the silly biblical scenes may dishonor Jesus, she feels a little levity should be injected into the Christmas season because its too serious.
In fact, Dingman thinks having R2-D2 at the nativity wouldve served the Virgin Mary and Jesus more than a few crummy Wise Men.
She explains, It was in the desert and R2-D2 was in the desert. Hes very helpful to everyone around him. Maybe it wouldnt have turned out exactly the same, but it wouldnt be too different.
