Duncan Birmingham has just penned Pets Who Want To Kill Themselves (Three Rivers Press), a book about pets dressed up in ridiculous costumes, out tomorrow (Dec. 1).
It’s based on his blog by the same name, where he posts submissions of dogs and cats who look downright suicidal.
This includes pets in bunny ears, sunglasses, and extravagant outfits that only a mother could love. He’s also seen an iguana dressed as Harry Potter.
Birmingham says the most miserable pets are those wearing any sort of hat.
He likes to think the costumed animals are just “over- loved” by their owners, who mostly mean well.
Serious cases of “over-love” include a dog dressed up as Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz and a couple who held a “cat wedding” for their felines.
Birmingham attended the kitty nuptials and even read a poem at the ceremony.
