2010 Trend: Sweet Potatoes?

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Fried, baked, boiled, or candied, sweet potatoes are poised to be rather trendy in 2010.

Mintel International has just released a list of flavors and scents they believe will be huge in the U.S. marketplace in 2010.

Turns out sweet potatoes are the new black, since they’re delicious, healthy, and predicted to be THE functional food of 2010.

Other flavor trends on the horizon include...

  • Cardamom, known to be intensely aromatic with a strong, unique taste. The spice, typically in ethnic fare, was recently used in a line of chocolate bars.

  • Hibiscus, commonly in tea, has been known to lower blood pressure. It may become a common ingredient in the beverage market, as different waters have already begun incorporating hints of hibiscus.

  • Cupuacu, set to be the next big “superfruit.” The rainforest fruit contains more than 10 vitamins and antioxidants and essential amino acids. A cupuacu-flavored applesauce is already on the market.
