Birds Are Baby Dinosaurs

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Here’s a notion that has scientists flying high: Birds are really just baby dinosaurs.

Bayley Silleck is the co-director of Dinosaurs Alive!, an IMAX film out on DVD that follows paleontologists’ latest fossil discoveries.

Silleck says the most interesting thing he learned during filming was the relationship between dinosaurs and birds.

Scientist believe they’re incredibly close relatives, and blue jays, chickens, and turkeys are really just modern baby dinosaurs.

In fact, Silleck says Velociraptors probably looked more like “four-foot chickens than giant lizards.”

Fossils with feathers have been found in Asia, further cementing the bird-dinosaur relationship.

Though dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years, Silleck says scientists have only discovered 2-3 percent of the dino bones out there.

The best places for fossil digs are dry and rocky areas like the Gobi Desert and New Mexico, where paleontologists recently discovered the oldest dinosaurs ever unearthed in North America.
