‘PONG’ Becomes Contact Sport

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The old-school arcade staple, PONG, is now a full contact sport.

“Sportpong” is the live-action creation of Swiss man Patrick Jost, who thinks it’s time PONG stepped out of vintage game console and into the real world.

To play, two teams meet on a neon, glow-in-the-dark playing field built by Jost and attempt to earn points by shooting the ball into their opponent’s walls using a stick that’s tied to their feet.

To make the game feel close to the original ’80’s Atari paddling version, it can only be played in the dark so as to provide a retro laser glow that resembles the movie Tron.

Jost is making Sportpong and its equipment available for events.

He thinks it’d be useful at an “employee reunion” because it serves as a good team building exercise and promotes healthy competition amongst co-workers.
