The city is having its 31st Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival this weekend (Jul. 24-26), and various cook-offs will show the versatility of garlic.
Dennis Harrigan oversees the showdowns and says participants concoct everything from garlic cantaloupe to garlic ice cream, which, in his words is surprisingly refreshing.
Other bizarre garlic dishes to be featured this year by both amateur and seasoned chefs include garlic cookies and mac n cheese with a serious kick.
Vendors sell goodies like garlic chocolate, garlic frog legs, fried garlic, and garlic kettlekorn.
Though thousands of pounds of garlic are consumed at the fest, Harrigan assures bad breath isnt an issue.
Since everyone there has garlic seeping through their pores, Harrigan says you hardly notice the aroma.
The next day at work, however, is a whole other stinky story.
