Don McLeod’s Living Statues is a company that hires out professionally trained mimes that pretend to be statues for parties and events.
According to McLeod – a mime himself – living statues have to put up with a lot of jokesters who try and get them to break character.
McLeod has had a guy pull off his toupee in front of him and a woman flash her boobs Girls Gone Wild-style to try and get him to laugh.
However, he’d much rather deal with smart alecks than frighten audiences.
He recalls a party where the hosts wanted all the mimes to remain completely still for the beginning of the festivities.
When one female partygoer sat on his feet and caught a slight movement of his arm, it nearly scared her to death.
McLeod explains, “That’s why I prefer that people know we’re performers. I don’t want to give someone a heart attack.”
