The “Can’t Touch This” rhymer – who currently stars on his own reality show called Hammertime – says the King of Pop’s death has hit him harder than most not only because he had a close relationship with Jackson, but because the icon was Hammer’s dance inspiration.
Hammer recalls watching the young Jackson get down with his bad self on television as a boy, and how that made him love dancing.
He says, “There’s no way I would’ve been the performer I am without him. If you were a kid in the ’60s and ’70s, you automatically were dancing like Michael Jackson. That was my foundation.”
Hammer’s Jackson-inspired moves were so good as a kid that newspapers would tout him as the next MJ.
Though Jackson is now gone, Hammer says the “spirit of his dancing” lives on forever.
