According to Pez enthusiast Richard Belyski, many collectors believe the sugary candy is just as important and valuable as the dispensers themselves, which can go for upwards of $1,000.
Belyski says he heard of one woman who paid $400 for one pack of Pez candy from the 1950s.
He says, I couldnt believe when I saw that. Its just compressed sugar with a little flavor. I think its just as insane to spend $1,000 on one dispenser though. But to each his own. Some people like the candy, others only the dispenser.
Either way, those hoping to add to their Pez collection can attend the 11th Annual Pez Collectors Convention in Stamford, Connecticut, this Thursday (Apr. 2) through Saturday (Apr. 4), where they can buy, sell, and trade Pez goods with other enthusiasts.
Though he admits some Pez heads are pretty hardcore, Belyski assures theyre a friendly group of people.
