‘Idol’ Contestant Has March Madness Withdrawals

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – American Idol contestant Anoop Desai is admitting his addiction – to March Madness, that is.

Desai, the surprise pick for Idol’s Top 13, is a student at University of North Carolina and is a huge fan of March Madness.

He’ll be missing the college basketball frenzy to compete on Idol this year, and is anticipating major withdrawals.

Says Desai: “You have no idea how hard it’ll be. I’ll have to be creative and figure out ways to keep up with the games.”

He managed to cheer on his college team once before on Idol, though it wasn’t easy.

He watched a Carolina/Duke game in his hotel room during auditions but ESPN blacked out before tip-off, causing Desai to panic.

He recalls, “I paced in my room back and forth for two hours!”

Desai admits he’s very superstitious when it comes to Carolina games and “can’t look at the score” while they play.
