Cryonics Expert Keeps Frozen Dead Guy On Ice

NEDERLAND, Colo. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A man in Nederland, Colorado, has a seriously cool job: To make sure a dead guy stays frozen.

Bo Shaffer – a.k.a. “The Iceman” – is the director of the International Cryonics Institute & Center For Life Extension (I.C.I.C.L.E).

Every month, he’s responsible for packing 1,500 pounds of dry ice into a local chamber that holds the body of a man named Bredo Morstoel, who’s been cryogenically frozen for the past 20 years.

“Grandpa” – as Morstoel is called by locals – has become so famous in his chilly afterlife, that the town holds an annual Frozen Dead Guys Days festival each year, which is coming up this weekend (March 6-9).

Shaffer understands the fascination with Grandpa so he conducts tours of the chamber where the body is kept in conjunction with the festival.

During tours he toasts Grandpa by having an “Old Grandad Over Dry Ice” – bourbon poured over ice that’s taken directly from the dead guy’s container.

Shaffer says the stiff drink made from the ol’ stiff’s ice is for “dramatic effect” and creeps out tourists, much to his amusement.
