California Man Builds Giant ‘Transformer’

LEMOORE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A man in Lemoore, California, rekindled his childhood in a big, robotic way.

Classic car restoration pro Tom Rhoads took his love of the classic ’80s cartoon Transformers to another level by building his own 18-foot tall robot warrior in his front yard.

Rhoads spent a year building his version of the character Bumblebee out of an old Volkswagen Beetle, and says his 18-month old son inspired him to take on the mission.

He says, “I was a big fan when I was younger but I lost sight of my passion for Transformers as I grew up. When my son was born, it was a rebirth of my youthful memories. I got re- excited.”

The building of the transformer is only the beginning of what Rhoads calls his ultimate dream.

Says Rhoads: “My dream is to have a whole battlefield of giant metal creatures in my yard fighting each other, but it’s a dream I’m not sure will come true.”
