Celebrities Brace Budget Awards Season

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Celebrities won’t be splashing out in their finest, most extravagant attire this awards season.

Fashion expert Cynthia Nellis predicts that many stars will consider America’s economic hardship when they hit the red carpet for the Golden Globes (Jan. 11) and Academy Awards (Feb. 22).

She says, “I think it will be less bling, less ostentatious. We’ve seen people in the past wearing $5 million shoes. I don’t think we’ll see anything like that. It says, ‘I got this for free and you can’t even afford to pay your mortgage.’”

Starlets will also save a few dimes by wearing second-hand, vintage frocks this year, which Nellis says is “a good way to be a little frugal and still look amazing.”

Despite the more modest duds, Nellis believes awards shows are still “spectator sports,” so celebs should come looking fabulous, or at the very least fugly.

She explains, “We look to Hollywood stars for escapism, so they owe it to us to dress really bad so we can laugh.”
