Archies Reunite For Christmas Album

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – This is a sweet time for the cartoon band that gave the world “Sugar Sugar.”

After more than 35 years away from the music business, the Archies have reunited to record a Christmas album titled, fittingly, The Archies Christmas Album.

Although the music is still the same bubble gum blend that made the group a hit back in 1969, producer Ron Dante – who provides Archie’s singing voice – says changing times call for a more feminine focus.

Dante explains, “Betty and Veronica sing lead on eight of the cuts, while Archie sings lead on four.”

Most of the songs are Christmas classics such as “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and “Holly Jolly Christmas,” but there are a couple new tracks.

Dante is happy with the album – even Reggie Mantle’s guitar solos – but regrets not doing a holiday-themed remake of the Archies’ top 10 hit, “Jingle Jangle.”

Since the Archies are a cartoon band, a reunion tour is out of the question, but Dante plans to release a new CD next spring, possibly featuring guest appearances by Archies alum Toni Wine and Andy Kim.
