Late Def Leppard Guitarist ‘Haunted’ By Music

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Most musicians would kill for a constant flow of ideas, but one rocker’s creativity turned out to be deadly.

Lorelei Shellist is a model-turned-author who was engaged to former Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark before he died of an accidental drug overdose in 1991.

Besides alcohol and drugs, Shellist says Clark died from being “haunted by music and ideas 24/7.”

She says her former fiance’s mind was “never quiet” and he’d stay up for days writing songs with the help of the voices in his head.

Shellist explains, “He’d get these flashes in the middle of the night and get up to write new music. I think part of the reason he drank was to quiet his thoughts. It helped him pass out.”

But before the rough times, Shellist and Clark shared a glamorous rockstar life together.

They often mingled at parties with legends like Rod Stewart and Elton John, and traveled to dream destinations.

Shellist says they truly bonded over “living out of a suitcase.”

Her relationship with Clark and her life as a top model is detailed in her book, Runaway Runway (Siren Star).
