Comic Book Author Inspired By Horrifying Father

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One comic book author looks to his horrifying father for his scary stories.

Joe Hill – son of terror titan Stephen King – has just come out with a horror comic book series called Locke & Key (IDW Publishing).

Hill admits that growing up with a demented dad helped shape his taste for terror.

He says, “I love my dad’s books. I’ve read a few of them dozens of times. My imagination has been very influenced by his horror movies and novels.”

Hill says growing up with the king of creepy provided endless scares, since King owns every single Tales from the Crypt comic, which Hill says gave him hours of entertainment as a kid.

Despite growing up surrounded by the sinister, Hill says he never felt the overpowering impulse to rebel against Dad by writing about unicorns.

Even though he has a soft spot for scary stories, Hill says he doesn’t obsess over them, and enjoys mixing other genres into his creepy tales.

Locke & Key hits shelves Wednesday (Oct. 1).
