Painting Fences Can Make You A Karate Master

HANNIBAL, Mo. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Painting a fence can turn you into a karate kid.

Kids between 10 and 13 are brushing up on their painting skills for the National Fence Painting Competition happening July 2-5 as part of the Hannibal, Missouri, Tom Sawyer Days.

According to festival coordinator Jennifer Foster, being a fence-painting pro can help you acquire crazy ninja skills, just like Daniel-San did in the classic 80s movie The Karate Kid.

She says, “It’s hard to say, but I assume knowing how to paint can help you learn other skills, including karate.”

Many of the kids who come to the competition practice tirelessly at home to perfect the best brush-stroking strategy.

Foster says, “Some kids start from one side and work their way to the other, while others do a crisscross stroke. Every year they come back, they’ll try something new, having spent their summers working on their painting skills.”
