Judy Garland Festival Attracts Fans Of All Sizes

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – In The Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland laments, “There’s no place like home,” and her die-hard fans agree.

Before becoming a Hollywood icon, the legendary entertainer was born and bred in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

For the last 33 years, the midwest town has celebrated the birth of their most famous resident with the Judy Garland Festival, happening this Thursday (Jun. 26) through Saturday (Jun. 28).

Festival spokeswoman Polly Edington says hundreds of fans come out to pay their respects to Garland, and participate in numerous Judy-themed events including a Toto the dog look-alike contest, a Q&A with former munchkins, and a talk with Judy’s youngest son, Joey Luft.

This year, several of Judy’s personal items will also be on display, including a mink coat that “tiny” fans can try on to feel closer to the screen queen.

As Edington points out, “Judy was tiny and not even five feet tall, so I doubt many people will be able to squeeze into it!”
