The baking gloves are coming off on Sunday (May 18) at the DrinkEatPlay Cupcake Challenge, in which 13 of the finest bakeries in the City of Angels will compete to see whose pastry wins top prize in tastiness.
Chefs can submit traditional cupcakes or more experimental flavors, like Peanut Butter and Jelly, which can earn them bonus points for creativity.
But according to event producer Dan Silberstein, kooky cooks shouldnt get too crazy with the cakes.
He says, You dont want to go too unconventional. Like salty cupcakes dont go over well. Id love it if someone made a cinnamon churro one though.
Though Silberstein says plenty of rich and hearty frosting goes a long way, bakers should try to keep the sweetness to a minimum because, as she puts it, Theres only so much sugar someone can have before they die of diabetes.
