Festival Brings Out Homemade Mischief

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Crazy contraptions will be wowing crowds at one wacky festival.

The 3rd Annual Bay Area Maker Faire is bringing Do-It-Yourself dynamos together to show off their crazy, homemade creations this Saturday and Sunday (May 3-4) at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds in San Mateo, California.

Attendees will see everything from robotics and rockets, to homegrown foods and clothing, including a life-size version of the board game Mouse Trap and a crazy soda explosion.

Event spokesperson Mark Ballard explains, “There are about 200 crazy people who make off-the-wall stuff. The Diet Coke and Mentos guys turn it to 11 though, making explosions with the soda by dropping Mentos in bottles. It’s like the Bellagio in Vegas.”

Though Ballard calls the event a “wow fest where every couple of feet your head turns at something you’ve never seen before,” it also makes a statement about consumer culture, and encourages people to make their own products instead of buying new ones.
