Bicycles Get Holy Blessing

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Bike riders are getting the holy treatment.

Riding a bike in New York has become a blessing with the 10th Annual Blessing of the Bicycles, happening this Saturday (Apr. 26) at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.

The church is inviting riders to bring their bikes so they can be blessed with holy water by a priest to ensure a safe bike- riding season.

Attendees will also hold a minute of silence for fallen riders lost in the past year.

Event co-creator Glen Goldstein says, “When you’re riding down Fifth Avenue in the rain, it doesn’t hurt to have a little help in your corner.”

People from all religious backgrounds, and even Atheists, are getting in on the holy event because, as Goldstein puts it, “It never hurts them to have all their bets covered.”

Though Goldstein admits that the blessing may not protect you from injury, he says it definitely makes riders feel cared for on the streets of the Big Apple.
