Showbiz Briefs From The 14th Annual SAG Awards

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – 30 Rock actress Tina Fey won a SAG award for “Best Female Actor” in a TV comedy series this past Sunday (Jan. 27), and she knows exactly how she’ll display the very heavy award in her house. Fey plans to put her “Actor” award somewhere “up high,” where her toddler daughter won’t get a hold of it. In Fey’s words, “This thing is a baby crusher.”

LOS ANGELES – Ryan Gosling was truly loved by the media at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards this past Sunday (Jan. 27). When the Lars and the Real Girl actor strutted his stuff on the red carpet, every media outlet and photographer wanted a word with him. The swarm of journalists and photogs began chanting, ‘Ryan, Ryan, Ryan!” while the dapper and shy Gosling flashed a winning smile, waved, and walked into the Shrine Auditorium where the awards were held.

LOS ANGELES – The SAG Awards endured a cold and rainy day in Los Angeles this past Sunday (Jan. 27), but the producer and crew made it work. Producer Kathy Connell says the crew worked “24 hours, through the night” to construct a last-minute clear tent over the glamorous red carpet so that celebrities and the media wouldn’t get rained on. The tents worked for the most part, but inevitably the red carpet remained wet and mushy throughout the night, prompting celebs to really watch their step as they strutted down.

LOS ANGELES – Despite the rain, Hairspray starlet Amanda Bynes worked the red carpet at the SAG Awards – with a little help from her sister. Bynes – who’s gorgeous teal, crystal-encrusted, tiered Marcheta gown was soaking wet at the bottom from the rain – walked hand-in-hand with her older sis, Jillian, who made sure the star didn’t fall. They happily posed for pictures together and Jillian proudly looked on as her little sister stopped for media interviews.

LOS ANGELES – Not even the SAG Awards were safe from angry, religous picketers protesting Heath Ledger outside of the Shrine Auditorium. A group of four picketers displayed signs that read hateful messages like, Heath In Hell, American Idol?, and God Hates You, in attempts to religiously condemn the late Ledger for having played a gay cowboy in the Oscar-winning film Brokeback Mountain.

LOS ANGELES – High School Musical starlet Ashley Tisdale was in full-blown, teen queen, diva mode at the SAG Awards red carpet. The Disney Channel actress, accompanied by her boyfriend, High School Musical backup dancer Jared Murillo, turned her nose up and most requests for pictures and interviews, and quickly walked into the Shrine. Insiders speculate the star was trying to dodge questions about her recent nose job, which sources say looked “interesting.”

LOS ANGELES – Technical difficulties during the SAG Awards caused a stir in the media press room. Right in the middle of the show, the microphones and televised feeds went out in the backstage area, which caused a huge gasp from every single journalist in the room. The microphones and audio were out for about 10 minutes before crews were able to fix everything.

LOS ANGELES – The cast of The Office hammed it up in the press room after receiving the SAG Award for “Best Ensemble Cast” in a TV comedy series, dishing about the funny shenanigans that occur behind the scenes of their show. When asked which castmember laughs the most during takes, Jenna Fischer called out Mindy Kaling, saying, “I would say Mindy has the hardest time.” The rest of the cast “Oohed” and laughed, and Melora Hardin chimed in, “That’s the pot calling the kettle black!”

LOS ANGELES – The Office cast all took home SAG awards for “Best Ensemble Cast” in a comedy series this past Sunday (Jan. 27), and lugging around the heavy awards was a tough task for them. In the press room, Jenna Fischer said the “Actor” award weighed “about 20 pounds” and was a “bicep workout for sure,” and Melora Hardin said her arm was sore from carrying it around. But Office funnyman B.J. Novak had the perfect solution. Novak suggested, “I wish they had a trophy check sometimes, you know? Next to the coat check in this town. A good set up like that.” Hardin then said she was going to keep her award on top of her piano, and Rainn Wilson chimed in, “Mine’s gonna go on Melora’s piano. No, I’m actually having an extra wing constructed in my house for all my SAG awards. Thanks.”

LOS ANGELES – The cast of The Office were all glammed up for the SAG Awards, but their after-party plans were still pretty simple. Castmember Mindy Kaling joked that they were going to McDonalds after the show, while Creed Bratton added, “We’ll probably stay out very late, because we’re not working, so we can stay out all night. All night!”

LOS ANGELES – Catherine Keener played it safe – and comfortable – when it came to walking the soggy red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Into the Wild star showed off her smart side by walking the star- studded carpet in flat, shiny black rain galoshes beneath her designer dress.

LOS ANGELES – Joey Fatone needed to step up his fashion game at this past Sunday’s (Jan. 27) SAG Awards. Fatone was covering the red carpet arrivals for TV Guide, and while he looked sharp in a tuxedo, he wore shiny black Nike sneakers. His amateur appearance didn’t score him points with SAG Awards nominee Ryan Gosling, who brushed off Fatone at his request for a quick interview.

LOS ANGELES – Old school Hollywood legend Mickey Rooney doesn’t care about today’s hot Hollywood gossip. Rooney was polite and proper when speaking to the press at this past Sunday’s (Jan. 27) SAG Awards that is, until a reporter asked him his feelings on the hijinks of young Hollywood stars. Rooney replied, “I’m not here to talk about that,” before being led off by his wife, Jan Rooney.

LOS ANGELES – You don’t have to be all glammed up take home a SAG award. Julie Christie won the trophy for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role” for Away From Her, but instead of wearing a glamorous gown, Christie showed up to the star-studded event in a conservative pants suit.
