No Dead Bodies At Coroner’s Gift Shop

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You can’t see dead bodies at the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

Skeletons in the Closet is the gift shop at the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, and they sell everything from toe tags to kids’ clothes, all depicting their trademark logo featuring the chalk outline of a recently deceased John Doe.

But according to store manager Edna Pereyda, the murder merchandise isn’t enough for many crime buffs.

She says, “People always ask for a tour. They’ll say, ‘Can we go see dead bodies?’ But we don’t do that.”

And the coroner’s office’s creepy collectibles are coveted, and even stolen sometimes.

Pereyda says, “We’ve been open for 15 years, and people from way back then still come in to buy the new stuff we get. Our most popular item is the towel with the chalk outline on it, but you have to watch out when you go to the beach or gym because people do steal them. We’ll have people come back two, three times to get new ones after they get stolen.”
